Drawings for exhibition - 09/09

The result of my attempt to, “stop trying to turn what I am creating into my mental image of what it should look like” these narratives revealed themselves to me in the course of expressive mark making.

Arising from my desires to liberate myself from both the monotony of present circumstance and my accumulated iconography, I consider these works seminal.

Flashflood portrays a feeling of helplessness in the face of the combined weight of external forces and subconscious drives. Bubbleboy is a very layered story that I will have to let tell itself as I’m not sure I’ve completely finished reading it myself.
It speaks much of modern man’s relationship with his world.

The work was painted, redrawn in panels, scanned and finally redrawn as vector artwork. I chose this lengthy process partly for the quality of line it produces and so I might be able to reproduce the works at variable size on a wide range of materials.
